The Audiogram – What is an audiogram?
Familiar Sounds on the Audiogram
An audiogram is a graph that shows the softest sounds a person can hear at different pitches or frequencies. The Y axis represents intensity measured in decibels and the X axis represents frequency measured in Hertz. Most audiograms cover a range of frequencies between 100 Hz and 8000 Hz because this range includes the fundamental frequency of sounds in speech. An audiogram may be used in a hearing evaluation.
